The road to Wahl Clipper Corporation started in 1911, when Sterling High School junior, Leo J. Wahl, experimented with a vibrating electromagnetic motor. Later, as an engineering student at the University of Illinois, he designed a vibrating medical massager. In 1919, his patents on the first practical hair clipper were accepted and manufacturing began at a small plant in Sterling, Illinois.
Today, Wahl offers products ranging from hair clippers to men’s facial hair trimmers and shavers, women’s hair removal products, therapeutic massagers and pet care products. Dedication to American quality and service has helped Wahl Clipper become a global standard for integrity, value and efficiency. There are more than 2,200 employees worldwide with Wahl products sold in 165 countries, but the company headquarters remain in Sterling, Illinois, U.S.A.
